The Dreamscape Universe of An Aspiring Scribe

"One describes a tale best by telling the tale. You see? The way one describes a story, to oneself or to the world, is by telling the story. It is a balancing act and it is a dream. The more accurate the map, the more it resembles the territory. The most accurate map possible would be the territory, and thus would be perfectly accurate and perfectly useless. The tale is the map that is the territory." --Neil Gaiman, 'American Gods'

Good Lord!...A Writing Update

Yep. A writing update. It's been ages since I've talked about where I'm at in my literary existence. School had gotten in the way of doing much actual writing for the last three-and-a-half months, but now that it's over and the summer stands before me, I want to buckle down and do some serious work.

The primary concern for me at the moment is my science-fiction novel, which currently stands at a Prologue, two chapters, and the opening paragraphs of a third; the scary part is that I've realized I really hate the general quality of writing in them and will have to rewrite them heavily. Whether that will happen later down the line, or before I continue with the story is something I haven't decided yet. I've also bought myself a couple of lined notebooks/journals in order to begin the task of concrete, definite world-building so I can really understand how the environment and background affects the characters and thus the narrative.

One thing that has been cool is that I've lately come back onto a "Lord of The Rings" kick, and Tolkien the Sub-Creator helps for some inspiration. :)

Be seeing you,
Steven
