The Dreamscape Universe of An Aspiring Scribe

"One describes a tale best by telling the tale. You see? The way one describes a story, to oneself or to the world, is by telling the story. It is a balancing act and it is a dream. The more accurate the map, the more it resembles the territory. The most accurate map possible would be the territory, and thus would be perfectly accurate and perfectly useless. The tale is the map that is the territory." --Neil Gaiman, 'American Gods'

Raping Eve

The shame and darkness of my loathsome secret
Is such that ne'er before have I used words to say
That in the boiling heat of lust intemp'rate,
I take to raping Eve near ev'ryday.
I grant she may, of late, be willing of the act,
And that her gazing eyes have beckoned me to sin,
But it serves no excuse for the will power that I lacked
When first she opened wide to let me in.
She was not always thus, but once was fair and pure,
Before she was herself seducèd and enticed
By charms to rival hers in attraction and allure;
The same witchcraft that tempted me into this evil tryst.
Although she is not blameless, Adam still am I;
Eve the fallen, damnèd harlot is the apple of my eye.

How often have I looked at her and acted on my lust?
How often has my gaze drunk in her supple form?
Then with these eyes I have from Him who shaped my dust,
I steal her glorious womanhood, leave her and me both shorn
Of all true love. O wretched is my soul in evil bound!
When will these chains break loose and set me free?
Can I ever stand like Moses upon the holy ground
And like his people throw off this yoke of slavery?
“My grace is all-sufficient and my power full in weakness;
My mercies fall like rain to no one's loss;
My strength will bring you out and unlash the harness
That holds you down. Remember only the blood upon the cross.”
So have I been answered, and cleansèd wholly pure,
And live in hope of life eternal with forgiveness wholly sure.

And now all that remains is to beg for your forgiveness;
This that has been my burden has also been my shame.
But if you will consent to pardon all my sins nonetheless,
I swear you are my sweetheart, forever to remain.

Be seeing you,
Steven
